Ralph Garcia
Candidate for King of Fantasy Fest 2009.

Pic1I am a 4th generation Conch. I worked thirty years for City Electric/Keys Energy, and retired in December 2007. I worked for Alexander’s Guest House as a bartender off and on for five years, and now have been working as a bartender for Lateda since March 2008.

My friends and family run the gamut of Key West, from Cuban Conchs, to law enforcement, fisherman, business owners, performers and drag artists. I have been a contributing member of our Gay family since I came out in 1995.

In 2000, I ran for King of Fantasy Fest, and was made a Duke. I have two children, Tiffany and Ralph Jr., of whom I am very proud. I have always loved the water and like to go fishing in my boat whenever I can. I also love to snorkel, dive, and feel a great love for our island’s reefs and marine life.

As a lifelong member of our island community, I am running because I feel it is necessary to give back to my fellow members as much as they have given me. I have many rich friendships and feel that running for King of Fantasy Fest is a wonderful way to contribute and say thanks. I have also had many friends pass away over the years from AIDS, and see their names listed on the AIDS Memorial at White Street Pier. For a year I had a client of AIDS Help living with my partner and me, and I know how vital the money raised is to many of our fellow citizens. As advances to a cure continue, it is necessary that we continue to do our part in raising awareness and funds for those living with this disease. My goal for the campaign is to raise more money in donations for AIDS Help than anyone else, of course!

Vote for Ralph for King of Fantasy Fest 2009
Leading fundraiser will be crowned Queen of Fantasy Fest 2009

“The Royal Campaign is AIDS Help’s most important fundraiser of the year,” states Ginger King, the chair for Kickoff of the campaigns.  “Every penny raised during this two-month campaign fills a growing need at AIDS Help.  With continued cuts in state and federal funding, this helps fill the gap in providing housing, dental, nutritional, medical, pharmaceutical and social support for our sickest and most vulnerable clients.  We’re always so grateful for those who choose to run to support the mission of AIDS Help.”
