HOPWA Model Programs

AIDS Help and Key West are showcased in HUD publication of community-operated housing projects under HOPWA (Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS)

HOPWA 20, Housing Innovations in HIV Care commemorates the 20th year for the availability of HOPWA resources by describing evidence-based models that address special needs and promote quality results.

These practices demonstrate the successes and innovations of HUD’s state, city and nonprofit partnerships and the vital connections of housing and life extending care.

AIDS Help Inc. (AHI) of Monroe County Florida and the Community Development Office (CDO), a division of the government of Key West and the Key West Housing Authority (KWHA), have a 16-year collaboration, implementing the HOPWA Tenant Based Rental Assistance program in the City of Key West and Monroe County, Florida. They were awarded their first Special Project of National Significance (SPNS) in 1994 and have been renewed ever since.
