Share the Wreath at La Te Da

11th Annual Share the Wreath

Share the Wreath, an Auction like no Other
To Benefit AIDS Help

When the late Ronda Riviera was crowned Miss Firecracker in 2001, she immediately began planning her fundraising events for the year.  She embraced the concept of “Share the Wreath”, an auction of beautifully decorated Holiday Wreaths created by a myriad of local celebrities.  The event became an AIDS Help benefit and was an instant success that first year to help support the agency’s work throughout the Florida Keys. Last year the event raised over $12,700!  Queen Mother XXVIII Just Whitney and La Te Da intend to carry on the tradition. This year the promoters are hoping to surpass last year!

On Thursday, December 8th, the Crystal Room at La Te Da will once again open its doors for the 11th Annual Share the Wreath event.  Twenty-four wreaths will be auctioned.  “Everyone starts with the same bare wreath and then as you can imagine, especially in Key West, the decorators go wild,” says Queen Mother Just Whitney.  “The only rule is that each wreath must have lights.”

This tremendously fun and innovative event is unique to say the least.  “I picked up the wreaths and had given them all out by the next afternoon,” says Just Whitney.  “People continue to call me asking to do a wreath and I just don’t have any more.”  Past participants include past and reigning Kings, Queens and Royal Court members of Fantasy Fest, local generous businesses and creative “just plain folks”.  Reigning Queen Mother Just Whitney will emcee the auction with the help of celebrity auctioneers.

The doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the show starting promptly at 7:30.  Suggested donation is $5.  “This event is so much fun and just in time for your Christmas decorating needs but we want to make sure everyone would be able to attend,” explains Just Whitney in regard to the optional admission charge.  Seating is open, but limited, so get there early for the best seat!  Please call Pam at AIDS Help at 296-6196 with any questions.
